What is Farflung Infinite?

Farflung Infinite is a free, unofficial, fan-made geography game you play in your browser. It borrows the idea behind the daily game Farflung and drops the daily limit, so you can play as many rounds as you like. Each round has five prompts. For each one you pin a country on a world map, and correct answers that fewer people think of score more.

The original Farflung, made by Steve and published by Farflung LLC, gives everyone one daily game of five prompts. Its own site says there is no unlimited mode yet. Farflung Infinite fills that gap for fans who finish the daily and want more practice. It runs on its own prompts and answer lists, generated by our own rules from open map data and fact lists we check ourselves.

How is Farflung Infinite different from the original Farflung?

The core idea is the same: one country per prompt, several right answers, and extra reward for the less obvious ones. The difference is how often you can play.

How do you play a round of Farflung Infinite?

You read a prompt, pin a country that fits, and lock it in. Repeat that five times.

  1. Read the prompt. For example: "A country where Spanish is an official language."
  2. Pick a country that fits. Several countries will be correct. Before you go for the first one that comes to mind, think of a second or third.
  3. Place your pin on that country on the map (or type its name) and press Lock it in. You get one answer per prompt.
  4. See your result. The game tells you whether the answer counts and how rare it is.
  5. Finish five prompts, review every accepted answer, then press Play again for a new round.

The How to Play guide covers the full rules, how scoring works, and strategy tips.

Why do rarer answers score more?

Rarer answers score more because naming the obvious country is easy and finding a less obvious one takes real geography knowledge. Every correct answer in Farflung Infinite gets one of five rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare and Outlier. Common answers are the ones most players think of first and score the least. We estimate how familiar an answer is from the country's population, so big, well-known countries tend to be Common and small ones tend to be rarer. Outliers are surprising but valid answers, and they score the most. A country that doesn't fit the prompt scores nothing.

Here's an example. For "a country where Spanish is an official language," Spain and Mexico are obvious picks. Equatorial Guinea is also correct, but far fewer people think of it, so it scores much higher.

Is Farflung Infinite free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it's free, and you don't need an account. Farflung Infinite runs in any modern web browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to download. Ads shown on our content pages (never inside the game) pay for hosting. Your scores and settings are stored in your own browser, so clearing your browser data resets them. Our Privacy Policy explains how ads and cookies work here.

Where can I find answers and past rounds?

Every day's Daily Infinite round has a spoiler-protected answer page at Farflung Infinite Answers Today, with hints you can reveal one at a time before the full answers. Earlier days are listed in the Archive. These pages cover Farflung Infinite's own daily round only, not the official Farflung daily game. The official game shows its own answers after you finish it.
